Lionel Richie and Earth Wind & Fire show called off minutes before fans expected performance
Ticket holders can keep passes for rescheduled date or request refunds through original point of purchase

Earth Wind & Fire were forced to postpone their scheduled concert in San Francisco on August 6 after a medical emergency involving one of the band's members. The legendary group had been due to perform alongside Lionel Richie at Chase Center as part of their ongoing Sing A Song All Night Long North American tour when the show was unexpectedly called off just minutes before it was due to begin.
The postponement was announced shortly before the scheduled 7.30pm start, leaving thousands of concertgoers already gathered at the venue. Live Nation confirmed that Earth Wind & Fire were unable to perform because of a medical emergency involving a member of the band. The identity of the individual and the nature of the medical issue have not been disclosed.
In a statement shared on social media, Earth Wind & Fire apologised to fans for the sudden change.
"We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band. As a result, tonight's show with Lionel Richie will be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced soon. We sincerely apologise for the unexpected change and appreciate everyone's understanding."
According to officials, the San Francisco Fire Department responded to a medical emergency at the venue at approximately 5.30pm. One person was transported to hospital by private ambulance. Authorities have not released additional information about the patient's condition or confirmed which member of the touring party required medical assistance.
The cancellation came as a surprise to fans who had already entered or were waiting outside Chase Center before staff began directing attendees away from the arena. Ticket holders have been advised to retain their tickets, which will remain valid for the rescheduled performance. Those unable to attend the new date will also be eligible to request refunds through their original point of purchase.
The postponed performance was one stop on the 26 city Sing A Song All Night Long tour, which pairs Earth Wind & Fire with Lionel Richie. The tour began in June and is scheduled to conclude later this month after several performances across the United States. At the time of the postponement, upcoming California dates in Palm Desert and Inglewood remained on the schedule.
The latest disruption follows an earlier health related setback involving Richie. In June, the singer postponed two concerts after experiencing dizziness during the opening night of the tour in Minnesota. Following medical advice to rest, Richie resumed touring after recovering, allowing the co headlining tour to continue.
Earth Wind & Fire remain one of the most celebrated bands in music history, known for timeless hits including "September", "Let's Groove", "Boogie Wonderland" and "Shining Star". Their partnership with Richie has drawn large audiences throughout the tour, making the San Francisco postponement particularly disappointing for fans.
At present, no further information has been released regarding the health of the affected band member. Fans are awaiting an official update as organisers work to confirm a replacement date for the San Francisco concert
