Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she recently turned down a television project because it involved frequent sex scenes, explaining that she is no longer comfortable with that level of on screen intimacy.

The 40 year old actress discussed the decision during a panel hosted by Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 4. Seyfried reflected on how her attitude towards romantic scenes has changed throughout her career.

“Our jobs are weird,” she said, explaining that actors sometimes have to portray romantic relationships with people they do not have romantic feelings for. She recalled that kissing scenes once felt exciting and uncomplicated, but admitted that her perspective has shifted with age.

“I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex,” Seyfried said. “Doesn’t matter who it’s with. I don’t wanna do it. I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now.”

She added that she might feel differently if the project came along at another time, but currently does not want to deal with being naked alongside a stranger.

Seyfried also discussed how becoming a mother has influenced her ability to establish personal boundaries. She shares daughter Nina, nine, and son Thomas, six, with her estranged husband, Thomas Sadoski.

The actress recalled declining requests for photographs while spending time with her daughter in Manhattan. After one encounter, she asked Nina how she felt about the decision. Her daughter reportedly told her she was proud of her mother for saying no.

Seyfried said the experience made her reflect on the example she sets for her children and the importance of prioritising their needs when they are together.

The actress is currently starring in The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd, directed by Tim Blake Nelson. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before screening at the Hamptons International Film Festival. It features Seyfried as a teacher in an abusive relationship who takes a job at a maximum security prison and develops feelings for an inmate played by Scoot McNairy.

The film does not yet have a confirmed theatrical release date.
