T-Pain breaks silence on selling his music catalog to secure his children’s future

T-Pain says selling his music catalog secured his children’s future amid declining streaming revenue and royalties

T-Pain has revealed the personal and financial reasons behind selling his music catalog, saying the decision was driven by a desire to secure his children’s future rather than rely on the changing economics of the music industry.

The Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Faheem Rashad Najm, sold his publishing catalog and select master rights to HarbourView Equity Partners in February 2025 in a deal widely reported to be worth around $100 million. Speaking during a recent Twitch livestream, the rapper and singer explained that declining streaming payouts convinced him to cash in while the value of his catalog remained strong.

T-Pain argued that artists had little control over how streaming services reshaped the music business. He said musicians were never asked to approve pricing when songs transitioned from paid downloads to streaming platforms, where royalties are significantly lower per play.

The 41-year-old said he did not want to leave his children's financial future dependent on an industry he believes has become increasingly unpredictable. T-Pain, who shares daughter Lyriq and sons Muziq and Kaydnz with his wife, Amber Najm, said he preferred securing a guaranteed financial future over hoping catalog earnings would continue to generate the same income for decades.

The artist added that he knows exactly how much money he needs to provide long-term stability for his family and has no interest in chasing greater wealth if his financial goals have already been met.

When the catalog sale was announced in 2025, T-Pain described the agreement with HarbourView Equity Partners as the beginning of a new chapter, saying he looked forward to preserving and expanding the legacy of his music while continuing to create new projects.
