Ariana Grande addresses fan concerns over her upcoming break from fame

Ariana Grande has addressed concerns surrounding her upcoming break from public appearances, explaining that her decision to step away from the spotlight was carefully planned and not a reaction to recent events.

The singer and actress spoke to fans during her concert at the United Center in Chicago on Monday, saying she wanted to “clear the air” after reports revealed she would be taking a step back from visibility once her Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes.

Grande said the decision was made privately a long time ago and came from a thoughtful place. She reassured fans that her choice was not linked to negativity surrounding her career, adding that setting boundaries and taking time away can exist alongside having a positive professional experience.

The Wicked star described the tour as one of the most meaningful experiences of her career, praising the connection she has built with fans and collaborators. She said the experience has been healing and special, despite outside discussions surrounding her decision.

The announcement follows reports that Grande plans to take a break from public-facing work and appearances after completing her tour, which ends on Sept. 1 following her London residency.

Grande has had a busy period professionally, including starring as Glinda in Wicked and its upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good. Her performance earned her an Oscar nomination, while she has also released new music, including her 2024 album Eternal Sunshine and her latest project Petal.

The singer is also set to appear in the upcoming film Focker-in-Law, which is scheduled to arrive in theatres on Nov. 25.
