Tate McRae addresses MAGA rumours after online backlash

Tate McRae has responded to speculation about her political views, rejecting online rumours that she supports the MAGA movement after facing backlash over her collaboration with Morgan Wallen and her reported relationship with NHL star Jack Hughes.

Speaking in a new interview with Variety, the Canadian singer said she believes her values are already clear through the causes she supports. "I think it's pretty obvious what kind of person I am," McRae said, pointing to her work with organisations including The Trevor Project and the Global Fund for Women, as well as the inclusive environment she has fostered on her tours.

The rumours gained traction following McRae's 2025 collaboration with Morgan Wallen on What I Want, as well as scrutiny surrounding her reported romance with Jack Hughes after the NHL player was criticised for laughing during a congratulatory phone call from US President Donald Trump earlier this year. McRae stressed that her musical collaborations are driven by creativity rather than politics and declined to comment on her personal relationships.

The pop star also explained why she prefers to keep her private life out of the spotlight, saying she wants to protect the people closest to her and focus on building a positive support system rather than responding to speculation online.

McRae is currently preparing her fourth studio album following the success of So Close to What and her sold-out Miss Possessive Tour. Despite the online controversy, she said she remains focused on her music and hopes audiences judge her by her actions rather than assumptions made on social media.
