Four held, three injured in separate police 'encounters'
Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested four suspects, including three in injured condition, during separate encounters in different parts of the metropolis, recovering weapons and mobile phones.
In Korangi No 6, police said two motorcyclists opened fire when signalled to stop near Jalebi Chowk within the Awami Colony police limits.
In retaliatory firing, one suspect was arrested in an injured condition while his accomplice escaped.
The suspect was identified as Hamza, from whom a 30-bore pistol was recovered.
A police spokesperson said the suspect, during initial interrogation, confessed to shooting and injuring his associates Nadeem and Saeed Johar on July 25 in Bengali Para over a dispute related to distribution of money.
The spokesperson added that he also admitted involvement in multiple robbery and street crime incidents. The injured suspect was shifted to hospital, while a search is under way for his accomplice.
In another incident, police arrested a suspected street criminal, Muhammad Ali in an injured condition during an alleged encounter in Sector 11-C/1 within the remits of Sir Syed police station. An accomplice of the suspect managed to flee.
A 9mm pistol was recovered from his possession. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and police said his criminal record was being verified.
