Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon bid farewell as ‘The Morning Show’ ends after Season 5

Apple has confirmed that The Morning Show will conclude with its fifth season, bringing one of the streaming platform's longest running original dramas to an end. The final season is scheduled to premiere in 2027, closing a series that has been closely associated with Apple TV since before the service officially launched.

The drama, led by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, was among the first scripted originals commissioned by Apple. Initially ordered in 2017, the series became a flagship title when Apple TV debuted in 2019 and quickly established itself as one of the platform's defining productions.

Jennifer Aniston reflected on the decision to end the show, describing it as an opportunity to give the story a carefully planned conclusion. She said Apple had supported the creative vision from the beginning and praised the cast, writers, producers and crew for becoming like family during the production. Aniston added that knowing Season 5 would be the last allowed everyone involved to honour the characters with an ending crafted intentionally.

Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt said the final chapter would allow viewers to see where the journalists ultimately end up after years of personal and professional struggles. Producing director Mimi Leder described the opportunity to guide the series from its earliest development through its conclusion as one of the greatest privileges of her career.

Produced by Media Res alongside Echo Films and Hello Sunshine, The Morning Show has consistently attracted major acting talent. Alongside Aniston and Witherspoon, the ensemble has included Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm. Season 5 also features Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, Sean Hayes and Lizzy Caplan among its additions.

The drama has remained a strong awards contender throughout its run, earning 28 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and four wins. Billy Crudup secured two Emmy victories for his supporting performance, while both Aniston and Witherspoon received acting nominations. The series also competed for Outstanding Drama Series during its acclaimed run.

Season 4, released in September 2025, explored a media landscape shaped by corporate consolidation, misinformation, deepfakes and growing public distrust. Those themes continued the programme's reputation for weaving real world issues into fictional newsroom conflicts.

When Season 5 premieres in 2027, it will mark the end of a series that played a major role in launching Apple TV into the competitive streaming market.
