'Obsession' ending explained: Who survives, who dies, and what the One Wish Willow really does

Obsession ends on a tragic note, bringing its supernatural mystery and psychological horror full circle.

The film follows Bear, who unknowingly unleashes devastating consequences after wishing that his longtime crush, Nikki, would love him "more than anyone else in the world" using a mystical object called the One Wish Willow.

The One Wish Willow grants wishes literally rather than safely. Instead of simply making Nikki fall in love with Bear, it traps the real Nikki in another realm while a supernatural version of her takes over. This version becomes obsessively devoted to Bear, growing increasingly unstable and violent as the story progresses.

As Bear searches for a way to undo the wish, he discovers there are only three possible ways to break the curse: Bear must die, Nikki must die, or someone else must use another One Wish Willow to reverse the original wish.

He first asks his friend Ian to make the undoing wish, but Ian doesn't believe him and instead wishes for a billion dollars, which is immediately granted when cash literally crashes through his roof.

Bear buys another One Wish Willow hoping Nikki can reverse the curse herself, but by then events have spiraled out of control. Nikki discovers Bear secretly met with Sarah and murders her. Ian later arrives unexpectedly, only to be shot dead by Nikki as well.

Realizing there is no easy way out, Bear decides to sacrifice himself. Unable to shoot himself, he overdoses on oxycodone, hoping his death will finally free Nikki. Before he dies, however, Nikki uses the spare One Wish Willow to wish that Bear would love her as deeply as she loves him.

The wish briefly takes effect, allowing the two to share one final embrace before Bear collapses from the overdose.

Bear's death finally breaks the original curse. The real Nikki regains control of her body and finds herself surrounded by the aftermath of the violence committed while she was possessed. Sarah and Ian are dead, Bear is gone, and Nikki is left traumatized by everything that happened.

The ending also reveals the film's central message. Rather than simply telling a supernatural horror story, Obsession explores the dangers of entitlement and forced affection. Bear's wish strips Nikki of her free will, and despite eventually regretting his decision, the damage cannot be undone.

While Bear dies attempting to fix his mistake, Nikki is left to live with the emotional and physical consequences, making the film's final moments both tragic and unsettling.
