Sony Pictures has acquired Hollow, a new reimagining of the classic Sleepy Hollow story starring Sydney Sweeney, with filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer set to write, direct and produce the upcoming project.

The film is based on Beer’s debut novel of the same name, which is scheduled to be published by Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in fall 2027. According to reports, Sony moved quickly to secure the project in a competitive deal, with the studio seeing strong potential in the gothic supernatural thriller.

Hollow will offer a fresh perspective on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by focusing on Katrina Van Tassel, transforming the traditionally overlooked character into the centre of a dangerous mystery. The story explores themes of power, identity and survival while blending gothic horror, psychological suspense and supernatural romance.

Sydney Sweeney will produce the film through her Honey Trap banner, while LuckyChap, the production company behind several major female-led projects, will also produce. The project marks the first feature film production for Honey Trap, which recently secured a first-look deal with Sony Pictures.

Beer’s Lab Brew banner will also be involved, with Alexandra Banks and Spencer Walken serving as executive producers.

The team is currently developing the film’s romantic triangle involving iconic characters Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane, with casting expected to become one of the industry’s most closely watched searches.

Sweeney previously collaborated with Sony on the romantic comedy Anyone But You, which earned more than $210 million worldwide. Her recent credits include The Housemaid and Christy, while Beer is known for directing Pet Sematary: Bloodlines and writing Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

With its star power, gothic setting and modern twist on a classic tale, Hollow is shaping up to be one of Sony’s highly anticipated upcoming projects.
