'Today' intruder faces up to 15 years in prison as Craig Melvin, Al Roker granted restraining orders
Andrew Truelove allegedly entered a restricted area at Rockefeller Plaza studios on July 16 to meet Al Roker

The man accused of breaching security at NBC's Today show studios and confronting co-anchor Craig Melvin has been granted no contact with Melvin and Al Roker after a judge issued temporary restraining orders against him. Prosecutors say he could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the most serious charges.
According to Manhattan prosecutors, Andrew Truelove, 41, allegedly entered a restricted area at NBC's Rockefeller Plaza studios on July 16 after following an employee through a secured entrance. Authorities say he was looking for longtime weatherman Al Roker but instead encountered Craig Melvin, allegedly shouting a racial slur at the anchor.
Truelove has been charged with third-degree burglary as a hate crime and third-degree menacing as a hate crime, offences that carry a potential maximum sentence of 15 years in prison if he is found guilty. He is also facing additional charges of criminal trespass and harassment.
A judge has now granted temporary restraining orders protecting both Melvin and Roker, requiring Truelove to stay away from the NBC personalities while the criminal case proceeds. He remains in custody at Rikers Island after bail was set at $10,000, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 22.
NBC News previously confirmed that Melvin immediately alerted security after the intruder approached him. Security personnel and law enforcement quickly detained the suspect, and no one was injured during the incident. The network said it is reviewing its security procedures following the breach.
Both anchors have since addressed the incident publicly.
Melvin reassured viewers that he was "doing just fine" in a message shared on social media before returning to Today the following morning, while Roker thanked supporters and declared, "You come after one of us, you come after all of us," expressing solidarity with his colleague.
The incident has prompted renewed scrutiny of security measures at NBC's New York headquarters, with the network reiterating that the safety of its employees, talent and guests remains its top priority as the investigation continues.
