Safety mesh mandatory for all manholes

RAWALPINDI:

In response to repeated incidents of children falling into manholes and sewer openings across Punjab, the provincial government has made it mandatory to install safety mesh in all sewage manholes.

The Punjab Water and Sanitation Authority (PWSA) has issued a directive declaring the installation of nylon safety mesh as a compulsory standard for all existing and future manholes across the province.

According to the notification, circular safety mesh made of approved nylon material, capable of bearing up to 300 kilograms of weight, will be installed beneath manhole covers as a secondary safety barrier.
