KARACHI:

Authorities have finalised a comprehensive security plan for the central Muharram processions on the 8th, 9th and 10th of Muharram, with more than 7,500 police and security personnel to be deployed across the metropolis.

According to city police chief AIG Karachi Azad Khan, the security arrangements cover all major routes and gatherings associated with the processions, which are considered among the most sensitive events of the Islamic calendar. The announcement came after Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi and AIG Khan conducted a detailed visit to Numaish Chowrangi, where they reviewed security and administrative arrangements and issued directives to officials on the ground.

Senior officers, including DIG South Syed Asad Raza, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, DIG East Farrukh Ali, SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh, SSP City Farrukh Raza, SSP South Mazhar Ali and Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, were also present during the inspection.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, AIG Khan said a uniform security plan has been devised for all three days of Muharram. "The procession routes will be completely sealed, and rooftop deployment will be ensured along sensitive points," he said.
