Olivia Rodrigo has revealed that every artist appearing at her newly announced Daisy Chain Fields Festival has agreed to perform without payment, with all proceeds from the event being directed towards charitable causes.

The singer discussed the festival during an appearance on Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer, offering new details about the all women event she announced on June 22. Daisy Chain Fields Festival is scheduled to take place in Irvine, California, on August 29 and features a line up of established stars and rising acts.

Among the performers are Chappell Roan, Doechii, Katseye, Mitski, Garbage, Bikini Kill, Rachel Chinouriri, The Breeders, Die Spitz, Eli, Quiet Light and Not for Radio. Rodrigo herself will also take the stage.

Speaking about the event, Rodrigo said she was overwhelmed by the support shown by her fellow musicians.

“I’m so excited about the lineup. My friend Chappell Roan is going to do it, Doechii, Bikini Kill. Kathleen Hanna is a huge hero of mine,” Rodrigo said. “100% of the net proceeds of the festival go to charity, and all the incredible artists who are on the bill are doing it for free for charity.”

According to Rodrigo, the festival’s title came from an image she had in mind of friends making flower crowns, friendship bracelets and daisy chains together. She said she also liked the symbolism of individuals joining together as part of something larger.

The idea for the festival was heavily influenced by LILITH FAIR, the successful all women touring festival launched by Sarah McLachlan during the 1990s. Rodrigo revealed that McLachlan was the first person she contacted after deciding to create the event.

“She’s a total trailblazer and an incredible artist and a friend,” Rodrigo said.

McLachlan is expected to attend as a special guest alongside Stevie Nicks and Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs. During the interview, Diane Sawyer suggested a duet between Rodrigo and Nicks on “Landslide”. Rodrigo responded with a smile, hinting that fans could be in for surprises.

“We might make that happen for you, Diane. We’ll see. Can’t give too much away,” she said.

The festival is partnering with numerous organisations including Planned Parenthood, Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, National Women’s Law Center and National Domestic Workers Alliance.

In a message shared on Instagram, Rodrigo described the line up as being filled with her heroes and friends. She added that she believes music, joy and community can create meaningful change.

Daisy Chain Fields Festival will take place on August 29 in Irvine, with all participating artists contributing their performances in support of charity.
