The Sindh government has announced June 25 and 26, Thursday and Friday, as public holidays across the province on account of Ashura, the Sindh Information Department said on Monday.

“The Government of Sindh hereby declares June 25 and 26, 2026, as public holidays throughout the province on the occasion of Ashura, Muharram 9 and 10, 1448 AH,” a notification said.

It added that all offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government, except those providing essential services, would remain closed.

Last week, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed authorities to ensure foolproof security for Muharram processions and majalis across the province, directing uninterrupted civic services and comprehensive arrangements for the holy month.

The chief minister also affirmed that maintaining law and order and facilitating mourners remained the government's top priority, warning that no negligence or lapse in arrangements would be tolerated.

Reviewing security and facilitation measures for processions and majalis, CM Shah directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure effective inter-agency coordination. He also instructed officials to incorporate proposals given by religious scholars into the final arrangements for the month, alongside directing K-Electric, HESCO, and SEPCO to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply during religious gatherings and avoid load-shedding along procession routes.

He stressed religious harmony and inter-sect unity, urging all stakeholders to work jointly for the peaceful observance of Muharram, stating that the government would utilise all available resources to ensure the protection of lives and property across the province during the blessed month.
