Aubrey Plaza has confirmed that Amazon has canceled her animated comedy series Kevin after its first season, bringing an early end to the project she co-created and starred in.

The actress shared the news with fans through a social media post, revealing that Amazon Prime Video would not move forward with a second season of the animated series. Plaza described the decision as disappointing, noting that the creative team felt the show was only beginning to find its footing.

The cancellation marks a setback for the adult animated comedy, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video and followed the story of Kevin, a pampered house cat whose life changes after being abandoned and sent to a New York City animal shelter. The series chronicled Kevin’s efforts to adapt to a new environment while forming relationships with a group of stray animals.

In addition to co-creating the show alongside Joe Wengert, Plaza voiced one of the lead characters. The cast also featured Jason Schwartzman, Amy Sedaris, Aparna Nancherla, Gil Ozeri, John Waters, Whoopi Goldberg and Ben Rodgers.

Reflecting on the cancellation, Plaza compared the situation to the early days of Parks and Recreation, recalling that the NBC comedy was given time to grow despite initially modest ratings. She suggested that many modern streaming projects are not afforded the same opportunity to build an audience.

While Amazon has not publicly commented on the cancellation, Plaza expressed hope that Kevin could find a future elsewhere. For now, the animated comedy joins the growing list of streaming originals canceled after a single season despite positive critical reception and a dedicated fan base.
