Pixar has officially unveiled its next animated feature, Gatto, introducing a fresh original story led by Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne as rival cats navigating a mobster-style underworld in Venice, Italy.

The film marks Pixar’s follow-up to Hoppers and arrives just ahead of Toy Story 5, continuing the studio’s recent string of high-profile releases. Gatto is directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, the duo behind Luca.

According to Pixar, Ruffalo voices Nero, a scrappy black cat who has spent years surviving in the canal-filled, superstition-heavy streets of Venice. Fishburne plays Rocco, a powerful and ruthless feline mob boss who holds influence over the city’s underground network.

The official logline reveals that Nero begins to question his life choices after years of navigating Rocco’s control. As tensions rise, he finds himself indebted to the mob boss and forced into an unexpected alliance that could change his future—or destroy him entirely.

The newly released teaser trailer introduces audiences to a stylized, noir-inspired world populated entirely by cats. In one scene, a group of feline gangsters gathers on a rooftop, mimicking classic mob behavior as one sharpens its claws like a weapon. Another sequence shows Nero and Rocco interrogating a cat over missing tuna inside a shadowy hideout, only for chaos to erupt when they become distracted by a dangling lightbulb.

The teaser highlights Pixar’s blend of humor and emotional storytelling, a signature style that has helped the studio achieve massive global success. With Inside Out 2 nearing $1.7 billion at the box office, expectations for Gatto are already high.

Gatto is scheduled for theatrical release on March 5, 2027, and is expected to further expand Pixar’s reputation for inventive, character-driven animated storytelling.
