Talay Riley, songwriter for Dua Lipa and Britney Spears, dies aged 35 after stabbing incident in London

British singer-songwriter Talay Riley, known for writing hits for some of the music industry's biggest stars, has died aged 35 after a stabbing incident in east London.
According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were called to an address in Silvertown during the early hours of June 5 following reports of a suspected stabbing. Riley, whose real name was Mark Orabiyi, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said a second man was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds. Three people were arrested on suspicion of murder, including two men aged 27 and 24 and a 25-year-old woman.
The 27-year-old man was later released on bail pending further investigation, while the remaining two suspects were released with no further action.
Riley built a successful career as a songwriter and artist, earning credits on songs recorded by major international stars including Dua Lipa, Britney Spears and Zendaya.
His catalogue included Dua Lipa’s “Last Dance”, Britney Spears’ “Clumsy” and Zendaya’s “Close Up”. He also worked with artists including Stormzy, Craig David, Chris Brown and Khalid.
In a statement, Riley’s family said, “Mark was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He brought love, light, and joy to our family and to all who knew him.
“We will always cherish his kindness, beautiful spirit, and remarkable talent. His presence touched many lives, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Tributes have continued to pour in from across the music industry. Riley’s brother, music producer Scribz Riley, shared an emotional message on social media, describing the songwriter as “a mentor, an inspiration, and a light in so many people’s lives”.
Among those paying tribute were Stormzy, who wrote, “I’m sorry bro ❤️❤️❤️”, and Khalid, who added, “Im so sorrry bro… im sending you so much love 🕊️.”
Riley’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fellow artists, collaborators and fans, with many remembering both his musical achievements and his impact on those around him.
