'Heated Rivalry' season 2 set for April 2027 release as fans await Shane and Ilya’s next chapter
Release window was confirmed by Jacob Tierney in conjunction with the announcement of his behind-the-scenes book

Fans of Heated Rivalry now have a clearer timeline for the return of one of television's most beloved romance dramas, with Season 2 currently slated to premiere in April 2027.
The release window was recently confirmed by series creator Jacob Tierney in conjunction with the announcement of his upcoming book, I’ll Believe in Anything: The Making of Heated Rivalry Season 1 (The Annotated Scripts). The behind-the-scenes companion volume is due to be released on 13 October 2026, giving fans a new way to revisit the acclaimed first season while they wait for the show's return.
Based on Rachel Reid's bestselling Game Changers novels, Heated Rivalry follows the decade-long love story between rival hockey superstars Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The television adaptation quickly became a breakout success following its debut, earning praise for its emotional storytelling, chemistry between its leads and nuanced portrayal of a queer relationship in professional sport.
The series stars Connor Storrie as Shane Hollander and Hudson Williams as Ilya Rozanov. Both actors became overnight fan favourites after bringing Reid's beloved characters to life on screen, helping transform the adaptation into a global streaming phenomenon. Their performances earned widespread acclaim from critics and viewers alike, with fans particularly praising the pair's ability to capture the emotional complexity of Shane and Ilya's secret relationship.
Season 1 proved to be a major success for broadcaster Crave and streaming audiences internationally, generating a passionate online following and dominating social media discussions throughout its run. The show's popularity has also translated into awards recognition, with Heated Rivalry becoming a standout performer at the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards.
The upcoming second season is expected to adapt The Long Game, Reid's sequel novel that follows Shane and Ilya as they navigate the realities of being publicly committed to one another after years of secrecy. While the first season focused on the pair's evolving romance against the backdrop of their fierce hockey rivalry, the next chapter explores the challenges that come with building a life together.
Tierney, who serves as writer, director and executive producer, has previously hinted that Season 2 will move into more emotionally complex territory as the couple face new pressures both on and off the ice. The creator remains closely involved in the adaptation and has been widely credited for helping transform Reid's popular novel into a prestige television hit.
Meanwhile, fans eager for more content before the show's return will soon be able to dive into I’ll Believe in Anything, which features annotated scripts from all six Season 1 episodes. The book includes extensive commentary from Tierney on the writing process, casting decisions, costume design, intimacy coordination and other behind-the-scenes elements that shaped the series.
With an April 2027 premiere now on the horizon, anticipation is already building for the next instalment of Shane and Ilya's story. For many viewers, Heated Rivalry has become far more than a sports romance adaptation—it has emerged as one of the defining television love stories of recent years, and Season 2 is poised to continue that momentum.
