New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced a new livestream series on Twitch that will allow viewers to ask questions directly during live broadcasts.

The series, titled Talk with the People, launched on May 21 at 4 PM ET and is designed to create a direct line of communication between City Hall and online audiences.

While the livestream is also being broadcast across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X and Bluesky, Twitch will serve as the main platform where viewers can submit questions through chat.

The move continues Mamdani’s strong focus on digital platforms following his rise in politics through online campaigning and social media videos before winning the New York mayoral race.

In a statement Mamdani said the livestream was intended to bring local government conversations to platforms already widely used by younger audiences.

“With the launch of ‘Talk with the People’ we’re bringing City Hall to the platforms where New Yorkers already are — speaking directly with the people,” Mamdani said.

“By launching the country’s first recurring cross-platform stream hosted by an elected official, where I’ll answer New Yorkers’ questions live on Twitch, we’re opening up a direct line of conversation between our government and the people, especially younger generations who’ve been ignored for too long.”

The name of the series references former New York City Mayor Fiorello La Guardia’s 1940s radio programme Talk to the People, which similarly aimed to communicate directly with residents using contemporary media technology.

The mayor has also recently used online platforms to highlight community events, including congratulating a team of elementary school students who won the 2026 Mayor’s Cup Battle of the Boroughs Minecraft tournament.
