Nintendo reportedly plans India return with Switch launch in 2027

Nintendo is reportedly preparing to launch original Switch in India early 2027

Nintendo is reportedly preparing to officially return to the Indian gaming market with the launch of the original Nintendo Switch in early 2027, according to multiple reports citing industry sources.

The company has largely been absent from India for years, with Nintendo hardware mainly available through grey market imports rather than official retail channels.

Reports now suggest the original Nintendo Switch could launch in India between February and March 2027 at an estimated price of around Rs 20,000.

Redington is expected to handle distribution and retail operations for Nintendo in the region. Neither Nintendo nor Redington has officially confirmed the plans.

The launch is believed to involve the standard Nintendo Switch model rather than the OLED or Lite versions. There has also been no indication that Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in India at the same time.

Nintendo’s previous official presence in India dates back to the Wii and Nintendo DS era, when products were distributed through partnerships with Samurai India and HCL Infosystems. Since then, Indian players have largely relied on imported hardware and unofficial sellers.

The reported pricing would place the Switch significantly below current PlayStation 5 pricing in India, potentially making it a more accessible console option for families and younger players.

Industry commentary suggested Nintendo may be using the original Switch to establish a stronger presence before introducing newer hardware to the market.

However, questions remain over long-term support, software pricing and whether future Nintendo consoles would officially launch in India.
