MAILSI:

A workshop helper has allegedly been left permanently disabled after suffering a severe electric shock while working at a vehicle body workshop on the Multan-Bahawalpur Road.

Speaking at a press conference along with his father, Kashif Mahmood, a resident of Abbas Nagar Dokota, said he worked as a helper welder at a bus body maker workshop, where bodies of buses, trucks and other vehicles are manufactured.

Kashif said the incident occurred during Ramazan while he was cutting the front canopy of a container using a grinder machine.

He alleged that the machine suddenly developed an electric current due to a faulty wire, causing him to suffer a severe electric shock and extensive burns before falling unconscious.

He was initially shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan and later underwent treatment at various hospitals.

However, according to the victim, delays in proper medical treatment resulted in the amputation of his left arm, while his right arm has become completely paralysed.

He added that his chest and legs also sustained severe burn injuries and treatment is still ongoing.

Kashif alleged that he had repeatedly informed workshop owners about the damaged grinder wire and unsafe working conditions prior to the incident, but no corrective measures were taken.

He claimed he was instead pressured to continue working despite the risks.

The victim's father, Abdul Rashid, alleged that the workshop administration abandoned the family after the incident and failed to provide adequate financial or medical support.
