KARACHI:

The Sindh Assembly paid tribute to the martyrs of May 12, 2007 incident in which a number of political workers belonging to different parties lost their lives.

The lawmakers termed the incident a big tragedy and condemnable.

A resolution was presented in the house by PTI supporter Shabbir Qureshi.

He said that many of the martyrs lost their lives in obscurity. On May 12, pro-democracy parties had organised a rally during which extreme brutality took place and innocent people were killed.

A spokesperson for the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan described May 12 as one of the darkest days in Pakistan's history, stating that more than two dozen party workers were killed by terrorist elements on that day.

The spokesperson said that MQM's Haq Parast workers, were entangled in politically-motivated, false, and baseless cases.

He added that after nearly two decades of difficult legal battles, the acquittal of MQM's leadership and members by the courts is a victory of truth.
