Charli xcx has confirmed that she will continue using her stage name in her acting career and has no plans to appear on screen under her birth name, Charlotte Emma Aitchison. The artist made the comments in a British Vogue interview published on April 16, 2026, where she also discussed her expanding work in film and her evolving creative direction.
The singer, known globally for her pop and electronic music success, is preparing for a significant shift into acting with several film projects already underway. These include I Want Your Sex, The Moment, Erupcja and a remake of the 1978 horror film Faces of Death. Despite the expansion into cinema, she made clear that her identity as Charli xcx will remain unchanged.
In the interview, she explained that the idea of using her legal name in professional acting settings had been considered in conversations with collaborators, but she ultimately rejected the suggestion. She described uncertainty around the idea, but firmly dismissed the use of “Charlotte” as a screen identity, signalling a clear boundary between her public music persona and her acting work.
Alongside her acting ambitions, Charli xcx spoke about her experience on set and the emotional challenges of stepping into a new creative discipline. She admitted feeling uncertain at the beginning of filming projects, describing early moments of doubt and questioning her place in the acting world. However, she also said that working with experienced directors and actors has been creatively rewarding and has encouraged her to continue developing her skills.
Her transition into film comes during a broader period of artistic change. Following the success of her seventh studio album Brat, she revealed she is currently working on her eighth studio album, which is expected to move in a different musical direction. She indicated a shift away from dance driven sounds towards a more rock influenced style, describing the new project as more internal and reflective.
Charli xcx has built a reputation for reinvention across her career, frequently shifting between pop experimentation and mainstream success. Her move into acting adds another layer to her evolving artistic identity, while her refusal to adopt her legal name on screen reinforces the distinct brand she has created over more than a decade in the industry.
As she continues balancing music and film, her upcoming projects are expected to further define her position as a multi disciplinary artist navigating both industries at once.
