Shootout with bandits leaves policeman dead, another injured
A policeman was martyred while another sustained bullet injuries during an exchange of fire with suspected bandits on Khairpur Link Road in Rohri on Monday.
Sukkur's SSP Azhar Mughal told the media that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Khandra Police Station when policemen Gul Muhammad Tunio and Bakhtullah Tunio were performing duty on the road, which is surrounded by dense mango and date orchards.
The SSP said armed suspects approached the policemen and opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the scene.
Police officials were unable to make any breakthrough in tracing or identifying the attackers by Monday evening, however, the SSP assured that the culprits would soon be arrested.
The funeral prayers of martyred policeman Gul Muhammad Tunio were offered at the police headquarters before his body was taken to his native village, Yar Muhammad Tunio, for burial.
An FIR of the incident could not be registered till late evening.
'Kidnappers' killed in accident
Two men allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a woman and her minor daughter were killed in a road accident on the National Highway near village Sahib Khan Jiskani in Rohri on Monday.
Police identified the deceased as Wali Dino Jagirani alias Turh and Araz M Jagirani.
According to police, the suspects had allegedly abducted a woman, identified as Nazeeran, and her six-year-old daughter Rukhsana from village Shah Bux Buharo.
The accident occurred when the motorcycle being used by the suspects was hit by a tractor-trolley on the highway.
Nazeeran sustained injuries in the accident and was shifted to Taluka Hospital Rohri for treatment. Her husband, Nisar Buharo, told media that armed men belonging to the Jagirani tribe had barged into their house and abducted his wife and daughter at gunpoint.
He claimed that his wife was in critical condition, while the whereabouts of their daughter Rukhsana remained unknown.
Meanwhile, a woman and her 15-month-old son have allegedly been kidnapped from their home in Marvi town area of Hussain Bux Mari taluka, Mirpurkhas district. The Mehran police registered an FIR on complaint of her father, nominating Theerat Bheel, Mukhesh Bheel, Vicky Bheel and Jhamun Bheel besides two unknown for the abduction of Shahida. According to him, his son in law works as a security guard in a private company.
