The District Health Authority (DHA) has established four nursing schools to train 500 Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) as part of efforts to upgrade the healthcare management system.
The LHVs will be recruited from union councils where Community Health Inspectors are currently not available.
According to sources within the DHA, training programmes for LHVs will be conducted at four institutions: the Rawalpindi District Health Office, Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Gujar Khan, Wah General Hospital, and Murree. Candidates for the LHV course must hold an FSc (Pre-Medical) qualification.
Lists for the training of 500 LHVs have been finalised, and classes at the four nursing schools are scheduled to commence by May 15.
Chief Executive of the DHA, Dr Ehsan Ghani, stated that the recruitment process for Community Health Inspectors is ongoing. He added that the induction of a further 500 LHVs into the health system will help ensure the provision of quality healthcare services at the doorstep.
He further said that directives issued by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services to the public are being implemented, adding that efforts are underway to improve the healthcare system to the greatest extent possible.
