Carrie Underwood has responded to rumours of tension between herself and comedian Nikki Glaser following the latter’s guest appearance on American Idol.

The speculation began after Nikki Glaser joined Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan on the judging panel during the programme’s Taylor Swift Night episode, which aired on April 27.

Social media users commented on what they believed was an awkward interaction between the two during the broadcast.

Some viewers claimed Underwood appeared uncomfortable whenever Glaser spoke, while others suggested there was visible tension at the judges’ desk.

One social media user wrote that the “tension between Carrie and Nikki” stood out during the episode, while another claimed Underwood did not appear pleased about Glaser’s appearance on the programme.

Underwood has now dismissed those claims during an appearance on Sirius XM’s Highway Mornings with Cody Alan.

Speaking about Glaser’s role on the show, the singer said there was “no beef” between them and praised the comedian’s performance as a guest judge.

“And I think she did such a great job because it's not an easy thing to come sit behind that desk and try to think of constructive things to say,” Underwood said. “And I don’t know, I feel like she did everything wonderfully. But no, there's no beef. I have no beef.”

Presenter Cody Alan also defended Underwood during the interview, saying, “Do you know Carrie Underwood? Like, she's never going to be a mean person.”

Glaser’s appearance marked the second consecutive week American Idol featured a guest judge, following Jennifer Hudson’s appearance the previous week.
