Cattle trade gets green light as city maps 21 markets
Authorities expand market footprint to manage pre-Eid rush and ease citywide congestion

As Karachi braces for the annual surge in livestock trading, authorities have opened the floodgates - formally approving 21 cattle markets across the city in a move to bring order to the bustling pre-Eid rush.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had sought permission for 11 sites, but approval was granted for only five under its direct management. However, various town municipal corporations (TMCs) and other institutions have also been allowed to set up markets at multiple locations, broadening the overall scope to 21 sites citywide.
In District West, traditional and newly designated markets include the long-standing Northern Bypass cattle market at Taiser Town, Aftab Goth in Sector 11-E Orangi Town, and the 2.5 Number Ground in UC-9 Mominabad, each to be managed by respective local authorities.
District Korangi will host five markets, including sites at K Area Ground under KMC, Korangi Coast Guard's Madina Colony, and Eidgah Ground in Korangi No 5 under Landhi Town.
In Malir, three markets have been approved, including the traditional Asu Goth market under TMC Malir, Cattle Mandi Colony under TMC Ibrahim Hyderi, and Deh Konkar under TMC Gadap.
District Central will see four markets, including Sunday Car Bazaar in North Karachi, Nazimabad No 2 near Ghalib Library, and Sector 11-I New Karachi, each overseen by respective municipal bodies.
Five markets have been approved in District East, including Dost Muhammad Khaskheli Goth, Azimabad Society near Sohrab Goth, Block 5 Gulistan-e-Johar, a site behind Safari Park, and another at Safoora Chowrangi.
In District Keamari, two markets will be set up at Yousuf Goth Bus Terminal under TMC Baldia and Bakra Piri Lyari under KMC. Meanwhile, District South will host one cattle market near Kala Pul, organised under the supervision of the Pakistan Navy.
The notification confirms that all 21 cattle markets have now been formally approved, paving the way for regulated livestock trading across Karachi.
