K-Electric slammed over 'unbearable' load-shedding
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan has strongly criticised K-Electric over what it termed "unbearable" electricity outages during extreme heat, calling for urgent federal intervention.
The party's spokesperson said prolonged loadshedding has made life miserable for citizens, particularly students currently appearing in examinations. "Due to K-Electric's inefficiency, students are facing severe mental stress at a critical time."
The spokesperson accused the utility of gross incompetence, alleging that it has been given a "license to oppress" Karachi's residents. The party further claimed that the company has crossed "all limits of negligence and high-handedness," while authorities appear powerless to act.
Raising further concerns, the MQM-P noted that even areas officially declared as loadshedding-free are experiencing extended power outages. It alleged that the company routinely blames electricity theft to mask failures in infrastructure and power generation.
According to the statement, several parts of Karachi are enduring outages lasting between 18 to 22 hours daily - despite consumers paying some of the highest electricity tariffs in the country. The party demanded that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif take immediate notice of the situation and revoke K-Electric's license, urging that operations be handed over to a more capable provider.
