'Tracker' relocates to Los Angeles for season 4 with record $48M tax credit
CBS hit 'Tracker' will move to Los Angeles for season 4 after securing a record $48M California tax credit
CBS drama Tracker is set to relocate production to Los Angeles for its fourth season after securing a record-breaking $48 million California tax credit.
The move marks one of the largest incentives ever awarded to a television series under the state’s film and TV programme.
The series, which stars Justin Hartley, was previously filmed in Vancouver for its first three seasons. Production for season 4 is expected to begin in late June, with studio 20th Television finalising facilities in and around Los Angeles.
The relocation had been anticipated following the California Film Commission’s announcement of new tax credit allocations earlier this year. According to a report by Deadline, the project was previously listed under a codename before being confirmed as Tracker.
Hartley, who also serves as an executive producer, said he is “very excited” about the move, noting that it will allow the show to explore new filming locations while continuing its storytelling. The series follows a lone-wolf survivalist who travels across the United States solving cases for reward money, making location a key element of the production.
Showrunner Elwood Reid added that the shift to California offers fresh creative opportunities while also supporting local crews and businesses impacted by reduced production activity in recent years.
Tracker has remained one of the most-watched broadcast series in the United States, drawing strong multiplatform viewership throughout the 2025–26 season. The show is based on the novel The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver and is scheduled to return later this year.
The move underscores ongoing efforts to bring large-scale productions back to California through financial incentives and industry support programmes.
