Action against ghost employees has been intensified at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari following directives from the Sindh Department of Boards and Universities, after nine staff members were found absent from duty for an extended period.

According to official sources, the list of ghost employees includes an assistant professor, a lecturer, an assistant controller of examinations, and several senior clerks. The employees have reportedly been absent from duty for the past eight months.

Those identified include Assistant Professor Dr Shabroz, Lecturer Dr Munir Ahmed Abbasi, Assistant Controller of Examinations Shiraz Ahmed, and Assistant Ayesha. Senior clerks Zohaib Usman, Tanveer Somro, Pir Mohsin, and Javeria Batool are also among those who have not reported for duty during the same period.

University administration has issued show-cause notices to the absentee staff, officials said, adding that earlier notices were also served but evoked no response from the concerned employees. Sources further revealed that despite prolonged absence, the employees continued to draw salaries and other financial benefits from the university, amounting to millions of rupees in losses to the institution.
