Colin Jost Defends Staten Island Ferry Purchase With Pete Davidson and Reacts to Wife Scarlett Johansson’s Shock
Colin Jost is defending the now-famous Staten Island Ferry purchase he made with fellow comedian Pete Davidson, while also revealing his wife Scarlett Johansson’s surprised reaction to the unconventional investment.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Jost discussed the purchase during a recent appearance, revisiting the 2023 deal in which he and Davidson bought a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry for $280,100.
Jost recalled informing Johansson of the purchase, saying, “I texted Scarlett, like, ‘Guess what? We own a ferry now,’” to which she reportedly replied, “We?”
The comedian defended the decision, explaining that the ferry had sentimental value as it was part of his daily commute growing up on Staten Island. He also noted that the vessel’s massive size, roughly 70,000 square feet, made it an appealing long-term investment opportunity.
Jost and Davidson have previously joked about the purchase, including admitting it was made impulsively and that the financial outcome has been more complicated than expected. Despite this, the pair have continued developing plans to transform the ferry into a usable entertainment or event space.
The project has since become a long-running talking point, with both comedians publicly acknowledging its logistical challenges while still expressing optimism about its future potential.
