Lana Del Rey has released a new track titled “First Light”, which serves as the theme song for the upcoming James Bond video game 007 First Light.
The song was made available for streaming on April 16 without prior announcement, prompting reactions from fans online.
The release marks Del Rey’s involvement in the James Bond franchise through the action-adventure game, which is scheduled for release on May 27 2026.
“First Light” was written by composer David Arnold, who has previously worked on five James Bond films. The track accompanies 007 First Light, a game that focuses on the origin story of James Bond as he undertakes a mission to earn his licence to kill.
Following the release, listeners shared responses in the comments section of the song on YouTube. One fan wrote, “Lana Del Rey is a great choice to sing the theme song for first light.”
Another commented, “We've been waiting decades for this.” A third said, “As a James Bond fan, I think she killed it. I love it!” while another added, “Ahhhhhh she's finally in a bond song and it's stellar!!!”
The release has been described by fans as a notable moment in Del Rey’s career. In 2015, she had written a track intended for a James Bond film, which was not selected by producers. In a previous interview with the BBC, Del Rey said she hoped to “one day” perform a James Bond theme.
007 First Light is positioned as an action-adventure title within the James Bond franchise, centring on the character’s early development. The game presents a narrative in which Bond must complete a mission to secure his status as a 00 agent.
