Marvel Studios closed out Disney’s CinemaCon 2026 presentation with the first major look at Avengers: Doomsday, bringing out Kevin Feige, directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, along with stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.
The studio confirmed the film will keep its December 18, 2026 release date, setting up a major box office showdown with Dune: Part Three. With IMAX screens expected to go to Dune, Disney also unveiled “InfinityVision,” a premium-format branding meant to help audiences find enhanced screenings for Doomsday.
CinemaCon attendees were shown exclusive footage packed with major reveals, including Thor battling Doctor Doom, who stops Stormbreaker with a single finger. Professor X is seen witnessing an incursion, Cassie Lang returns, Mystique transforms into Yelena Belova, Shang-Chi clashes with Gambit, and Thor meets The Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts inside Avengers Tower.
Thor also delivers a warning to the assembled heroes, saying he has fought alongside many warriors stronger than all of them combined, but they died facing enemies far less terrifying than what is coming now. He urges them to stand together if they hope to save everything that was sacrificed for.
Professor X is heard saying, “Something’s coming, something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we will be faced with an unthinkable decision.”
One of the biggest trailer moments comes when Thor says, “It’s not possible,” just before Steve Rogers reaches for Mjolnir and the hammer flies from Thor’s hand into Steve’s.
After years of denying any involvement, Chris Evans officially confirmed he is returning as Steve Rogers. Speaking at CinemaCon, Evans said, “I said I would only come back if there was a real reason, and in Doomsday, there’s a very real reason why these heroes need Steve Rogers.”
He also joked about Downey Jr.’s new villain role, saying, “I don’t like him.”
Marvel additionally announced that Avengers: Endgame will return to theaters this September with deleted scenes and other surprises.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, 2026.
