Dropout targets Emmys with 11-category push led by ‘Game Changer’

Dropout enters Emmys race with ‘Game Changer’ and ‘Very Important People,’ plus Vic Michaelis acting bid

Independent streaming platform Dropout is making a major push into the 2026 Emmy Awards race, submitting two of its flagship series across 11 categories, according to exclusive reporting by Variety.

The platform has entered its popular shows Game Changer and Very Important People for consideration by the Television Academy. The move signals a growing presence for the indie streamer in a competitive awards landscape typically dominated by major studios and networks.

“Very Important People,” an improvisational talk series, will compete in the outstanding variety series category following changes that merged talk and scripted variety formats. The show features comedians transformed through elaborate makeup and costumes, who then create characters for improvised interviews. Its latest season included notable appearances such as Laci Mosley.

Meanwhile, “Game Changer,” hosted by Sam Reich, is set to compete in the outstanding game show category. Reich is also being submitted for game show host, while the series will contend in additional technical categories including production design, casting, and editing.

A key highlight of Dropout’s campaign is Vic Michaelis entering the lead comedy actress race for their performance in “Very Important People.” The submission marks a notable step for performers from alternative and digital-first platforms entering mainstream awards recognition.

The 2026 Emmy Awards timeline begins with nomination voting in June, with nominations set to be announced in July. Dropout’s multi-category push reflects the platform’s expanding influence in the comedy and streaming space.
