MQM-P slams govt over soaring street crime

Members of the Sindh Assembly from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan have voiced grave concern over the surging wave of street crime in the city, alleging that the worsening law-and-order situation reflects the Sindh government's "deliberate incompetence" and a systematic attempt to economically cripple Karachi's residents.

In a statement issued from Bahadurabad, MQM-P lawmakers said no neighbourhood or major road in Karachi remains safe. Armed robbers, they noted, are no longer limiting themselves to theft but are increasingly resorting to violence, even killing citizens who resist.

The party described the crisis as more than a breakdown of law enforcement, calling it part of a broader policy aimed at marginalising Karachi's population and pushing them into deeper financial distress. They alleged that such policies are being orchestrated from within the corridors of power.

Strongly criticising the performance of the current administration, MQM-P legislators said the city has effectively been "handed over to criminals." In a scathing remark, they urged the Sindh government to "drop the pretense" and for-mally include a "ministry of looting" in the provincial cabinet.

They further claimed that robberies are taking place openly under the watch of police and administrative authorities, whose silence amounts to criminal negligence. According to the statement, inflation-hit citizens are being stripped of their remaining savings, pushing some toward extreme desperation.

The lawmakers also alleged that Karachi's residents are being subjected to political victimisation and punished for their electoral choices, left vulnerable instead of being protected by the state.
