Murree steps up relief after rain damage

Authorities say relief, rehabilitation and infrastructure repair will be prioritised

In the wake of recent torrential rains and the resulting damage across Murree and its adjoining areas, the district administration has intensified its response on an emergency footing.

In this regard, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Murree, Umar Awais Kiani, conducted a detailed visit to Chatta Mor, Bansra Gali, Barian and other affected locations, where he assessed the extent of the damage and carried out an on-ground inspection of the situation.

During the visit, he reviewed various highways, residential areas and drainage systems, where rain-induced road deterioration, potential landslide risks, blockages in water drainage and other critical issues were identified.

Kiani also met local residents, listened to their concerns, and obtained a comprehensive account of the losses incurred. Residents highlighted their difficulties and stressed the urgent need for immediate relief and rehabilitation measures.

The Additional DC issued clear directives to the relevant departments to carry out a thorough and transparent assessment of the damages without delay and submit reports promptly, so as to enhance the effectiveness of relief operations.

He emphasised that road restoration, debris clearance, improvement of drainage systems and provision of essential services must be ensured on a priority basis to alleviate public hardship at the earliest.

He further stated that the district administration is mobilising all available resources to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas, adding that any negligence or delay will not be tolerated.

He reaffirmed that the protection of life and property remains the foremost priority, and that all possible measures are being undertaken to restore normalcy as swiftly as possible.

Officials from relevant departments accompanied him during the visit and were issued on-the-spot instructions for the execution of various tasks. The administration has also decided to further tighten monitoring mechanisms to ensure both the pace and quality of ongoing work.

Local residents welcomed the prompt visit and practical measures undertaken by the district administration, expressing hope that the government will not only provide immediate relief but also ensure the long-term restoration of the affected infrastructure.

They also pledged their full cooperation with the administration to help overcome the challenges at the earliest.
