A suspect in a murder case escaped from police custody in Faisalabad, prompting authorities to detain three police officials and initiate legal proceedings against them.
Police said the suspect, identified as Sufyan, a resident of Chak 66-GB, had been arrested by Saddar Jaranwala Police in connection with a murder case.
After obtaining physical remand from a court, he was lodged in the lock-up. However, he managed to escape after allegedly finding the lock-up door unlocked.
Upon receiving information about the escape, senior police officials, including the SP and DSP Jaranwala, rushed to the scene and initiated action.
The police detained three officials on duty, Moharrar Shahid Iqbal, Assistant Moharrar Arshad, and sentry constable Meraj Din, for negligence.
A case has been registered against them under relevant provisions of the Police Order 2002, along with sections 223 and 224 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deal with escape from lawful custody.
City Police Officer Sahibzada Bilal Umar took notice of the incident, suspended the officials involved, and ordered a regular inquiry.
