Charli XCX’s management team has responded to claims made by Sky Ferreira regarding songwriting credits on the Wuthering Heights album.

The clarification follows comments made by Ferreira on social media, where she suggested that her past work had been used without proper recognition.

Responding to a fan discussion, she wrote, “Someone sent me your X account. I toured for years. I work. I hate to break it to you, but your favorite artist records my old songs. I hope that answers your question. Xoxoxo.”

Further discussion online included claims that songs on the album were derived from older demos attributed to Ferreira. She addressed those allegations directly, stating, “Your industry ‘insider’ is wrong. Close but wrong…It isn’t worth the trouble bc I know how the world works.”

Ferreira is credited on the track “Eyes of the World” as a featured artist, co-writer and vocal producer.

In response, Charli XCX’s management issued a detailed statement to Billboard outlining the process behind the album’s credits. “Charli has made seven albums, four mixtapes and one EP, and has written countless songs for other artists throughout her career,” the statement said. It added that she “always shares credits fairly and appropriately, and values her collaborators tremendously.”

The statement further explained that a standard review process was conducted prior to the album’s release. “All relevant parties were consulted throughout, and the album was played in full in advance of release to everyone. Songwriting credits and splits were determined and agreed collectively in writing.”

“All credits were finalized and formally approved by the appropriate parties prior to the album’s release,” the statement concluded.

Charli XCX has not publicly commented on the situation and is reportedly working on a film project and a forthcoming album.
