LAHORE:

The annual Sogetsu Ikebana Spring Exhibition, titled "Spring Reverie: Crafts of Pakistan," opened at The Residency Hotel Lahore on Friday, celebrating 100 years of Sogetsu Ikebana.

The exhibition is organized by The Lahore Floritage Sogetsu Study Group under the leadership of Neveen Syed, Director of the Group, in collaboration with Blue Pine Residences.

It showcases the works of Sogetsu Ikebana artists who have drawn inspiration from Pakistan's rich and diverse craft traditions.

The exhibition is open for public viewing today from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and on Saturday, April 4, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi inaugurated the event alongside Aamir Shirazi, Honorary Consul General of Japan in Lahore; Ghazala Irfan, President of the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association (PJCA) Lahore; and Ibrar Mumtaz, President of the Horticultural Society of Pakistan.

This year's exhibition draws inspiration from Pakistan's traditional crafts, celebrating the country's cultural heritage through the innovative medium of Sogetsu Ikebana.

Participating artists explored and interpreted a wide range of traditional art forms, including Multani pottery, Hala ceramics, and Ajrak textiles, blending them seamlessly into Ikebana arrangements that embody the essence of spring.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ambassador Akamatsu praised The Lahore Floritage Sogetsu Study Group for organizing an impressive exhibition on the centenary of Sogetsu Ikebana.

"This exhibition not only embodies the spirit of cultural exchange but also provides an opportunity to rediscover the tradition of Ikebana through creative interpretations that merge the freshness of spring with the rich crafts of Pakistan," he said.

The Ambassador highlighted how Sogetsu Ikebana, which originated in Japan, is finding new expressions in Pakistan, harmonising with local craftsmanship while maintaining the elegance and discipline of the art form.

He congratulated the Sogetsu community on achieving the remarkable milestone of 100 years, emphasizing that the exhibition reflects both creativity and cross-cultural appreciation.
