Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake discussions highlight Hyrule Field size and design concerns among fans

Discussions surrounding a potential remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have centred on how Hyrule Field could be redesigned, with fans debating whether changes should prioritise scale or remain faithful to the original experience.

The conversation gained attention after a Reddit user questioned whether Nintendo should recreate the original sense of discovery players felt when first entering Hyrule Field or retain its original dimensions.

In the original game, Hyrule Field acts as a central hub connecting major locations and plays a key role in the overall design.

Some players have argued that maintaining the original scale would preserve the balance of exploration and travel.

One user commented that Hyrule Field is “already the perfect size for feeling big without taking forever to cross”, adding that it provides “just enough incentive to get Epona” during gameplay progression.

Others have suggested that improvements could be made without increasing the map size. Proposals include adding more non-playable characters or introducing random events to make traversal more engaging while keeping the core layout intact.

However, some fans noted that expectations may differ for newer players. One comment stated that “many people might come from only playing BOTW/TOTK so it will feel tiny to them”, referencing the larger open-world scale seen in more recent titles in the series.

There is also discussion about whether a direct recreation would meet modern expectations. Some players indicated they would prefer new content rather than revisiting the same experience, with one noting they “don't want to play the same OOT again if I can go back to either N64 or 3DS.”

Nintendo has not confirmed a remake, and discussions remain speculative.
