Meta Platforms has begun testing a new premium subscription service on Instagram, introducing exclusive features aimed at enhancing user experience and engagement, according to TechCrunch.

The subscription, reportedly called “Instagram Plus,” is currently being trialed in select markets, including Mexico, Japan, and Philippines. While Meta has not officially confirmed all regions, early user reports suggest limited international testing is underway.

The new Instagram subscription offers several advanced tools, including the ability to view Stories anonymously—allowing users to watch content without notifying the creator. Subscribers can also access detailed insights, such as how many times their own Stories have been rewatched.

Another key feature is expanded audience control. Users can create multiple custom lists for Story sharing, going beyond the existing “Close Friends” option. This enables more personalized content distribution. Additionally, subscribers can extend Story visibility for an extra 24 hours and boost reach through a weekly “spotlight” feature.

The subscription also introduces interactive options like animated “Superlikes” and a searchable viewer list, helping users quickly check who has viewed their content.

Pricing varies by region, with reports indicating affordable monthly rates depending on the country. Meta says it will continue testing before a wider rollout.

The move aligns with Meta’s push to diversify revenue streams beyond ads. Competitors like Snapchat and X have already seen success with subscription-based models.
