The family of Sean Garthright, who was convicted in connection with the murder of rapper Foolio, has launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking support for legal fees, sparking widespread backlash and online threats.

According to reports, the fundraiser was created shortly after Garthright’s conviction, with a target of $24,000. However, the campaign has struggled to gain traction, raising less than $900 so far, reflecting limited public support for the effort.

Following criticism, the family released a statement on social media addressing the growing backlash. They said the GoFundMe page has been repeatedly reported and that they have been subjected to harassment and threats since launching the fundraiser.

“We want to address recent reports being made against Sean’s GoFundMe,” the statement read. “While we completely understand that not everyone will choose to support, going as far as reporting the fundraiser, sending threats, and harassing not only Sean but also his loved ones is truly mean-spirited and out of control.”

The family clarified that the funds are intended to assist with emotional, financial, and personal hardships as they navigate ongoing legal circumstances. They also emphasized that their request for support does not deny or diminish the seriousness of the case or the impact on those affected.

The statement further urged critics to disengage rather than engage in harassment or negativity, asking people who do not support the fundraiser to simply move on to other causes.

The case continues to draw attention online, highlighting the broader debate around crowdfunding for individuals involved in high-profile criminal convictions and the public’s reaction to such campaigns.
