Mandy Moore breaks silence on Ashley Tisdale’s ‘toxic mom group’ drama
Mandy Moore responds to Ashley Tisdale’s 'toxic mom group' essay, calling it deeply upsetting and hurtful remarks

Actress Mandy Moore has addressed the ongoing conversation surrounding Ashley Tisdale’s essay about a so-called “toxic mom group,” responding publicly to the controversy during an appearance on TODAY With Jenna & Sheinelle.
Tisdale’s essay, titled “Breaking Up with My Toxic Mom Group” and published in The Cut, detailed her experience stepping away from a group of celebrity mothers after feeling excluded and emotionally disconnected. While she did not directly name individuals, speculation online linked the group to Moore, Hilary Duff, and Meghan Trainor.
Speaking on the morning show, Moore said she found the situation “very upsetting” and pushed back against what she felt was a misleading narrative about the friendships involved.
“When you have a breakup or disagreement with friends, it can be really painful,” Moore said. “But I feel incredibly lucky by how meaningful the relationships I’ve made since becoming a mom really are.”
Moore also addressed the broader cultural reaction to the essay, saying she strongly rejects the idea that women are inherently “petty” or competitive with one another.
“I just hate this misnomer that women are out to pit each other against each other,” she said. “I have felt nothing but supported and loved. That’s been my experience.”
She emphasized that motherhood has strengthened her sense of community, adding that building friendships requires mutual effort and participation.
“To have a village, you have to be a villager,” Moore said. “You have to participate.”
The discussion has sparked ongoing debate online about celebrity friendships, motherhood, and how private dynamics are interpreted in public narratives. Moore’s comments have also been widely shared by fans, with many praising her calm and thoughtful response to the controversy.
