Faisalabad expands library network with new D-Ground facility
In a bid to promote a book-friendly environment and align with the Punjab government's "Parho Punjab, Barho Punjab" initiative, the divisional and district administrations have established the fourth public library in Faisalabad within a span of three and a half months.
The latest addition, a state-of-the-art e-library, has been opened at D-Ground Park in the heart of the city, offering citizens access to both recreational and educational facilities. Earlier, a similar library was made functional at Jinnah Garden, which continues to attract a large number of readers daily.
Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar and Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Nadeem Nasir visited the park and inspected various sections of the newly established library. Assistant Commissioner City Adil Umar and Managing Director Horticulture Authority Dilawar Khan were also present on the occasion.
Speaking during the visit, the deputy commissioner announced plans to establish similar libraries in other parks across the city.
He said the e-library at D-Ground Park would provide citizens with a peaceful environment for reading and research, equipped with both digital and traditional learning resources.
The facility offers modern amenities, including internet access, iPads, and computers, enabling students and researchers to benefit from a comprehensive learning environment. Officials said the integration of a library within a well-developed recreational park would help attract youth towards constructive and positive activities.
Citizens and book lovers welcomed the initiative, appreciating the efforts of the administration and expressing gratitude to the Punjab government for promoting educational opportunities.
Officials further stated that the expansion of public libraries will continue, with plans to establish more such facilities in parks across Faisalabad to enhance access to knowledge and encourage reading habits.
It is worth mentioning that the Metropolitan Corporation had earlier set up a transit public library at the busy Station Chowk roundabout, displaying around 50 books by renowned authors, including Allama Iqbal, to engage commuters and passersby.
In a similar effort, an outdoor public library was also established by the Municipal Committee in Dijkot along Faisalabad-Samundari Road.
The initiative attracted a large number of visitors, particularly students and local residents.
Assistant Commissioner (Saddar) and Administrator Municipal Committee Dijkot Dr Zulqarnain Saleem Wattoo said the open-air library was designed to encourage youth to move away from excessive use of social media and reconnect with books. He added that the space had been transformed into a peaceful reading corner with benches, plants, and a conducive environment.
