'Earth Hour's impact should last beyond the hour'
Experts say symbolic event should be accompanied by real action

Environmental experts on Saturday emphasised that Earth Hour's one-hour lights-off is only symbolic, urging greater public awareness and coordinated community and policy action to tackle environmental challenges in waste management, energy, transportation and overall sustainability.
While speaking to the media, researchers explained the significance of Earth Day, urging that it is a moment to reflect on the impact of human activity on the planet and to inspire individuals and communities to take action toward sustainability.
They noted that small actions, when multiplied across communities can create meaningful environmental change.
Environmental experts stressed that awareness should not be limited to just one day but maintained throughout the year, adding, educating communities about waste management, sustainable energy and environmentally friendly transportation ensures that environmental responsibility becomes a consistent part of daily life.
They suggested practical steps for increasing engagement, including community clean-up drives, educational campaigns, promoting renewable energy usage and encouraging local governments to implement policies supporting sustainability.
Environmental experts emphasised that coordinated efforts between individuals, communities and policymakers are essential to achieve long-term environmental protection.
Environmental expert Dr Kashif Majeed Salik added that proper waste management and the development of dedicated transportation cycle lanes are critical steps toward reducing pollution and carbon emissions.
He stressed that integrating such measures into urban planning can promote greener, healthier and more sustainable cities.
Environmental experts urged that awareness must go beyond a single day, encouraging year-round community engagement through clean-up drives, educational campaigns and renewable energy initiatives.
They stressed that coordinated efforts between individuals, communities and policymakers are essential to achieve lasting environmental protection and sustainability.
