LODHRAN:

An Additional Sessions Court in Lodhran has awarded the death penalty to four accused in a triple murder case, citing strong evidence and effective prosecution by police.

Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Ayaz announced the verdict, sentencing Asif, Imran, Ghulam Yaseen and Siddiq to death after the charges against them were proven.

The court also ordered completion of other legal formalities.

According to the prosecution, the accused had entered a dera (farmhouse) on April 17, 2024, over a land dispute and opened fire, killing Mujeebur Rehman Mangla and his two associates, Rafiq and Bashir Ahmed, on the spot.

The case was registered at Saddar Police Station on the complaint of the deceased's son, Tausif-ur-Rehman.

Police promptly arrested the suspects and conducted the investigation on merit, collecting substantial evidence and presenting a strong case in court, which led to the conviction.

District Police Officer Captain (retd) Ali Bin Tariq said bringing criminals involved in heinous crimes to justice remains the top priority of the police.

He added that Lodhran police will continue to ensure effective investigations without compromise.

Earlier in 2024, four people were killed in an armed attack allegedly linked to a dispute over local "numberdari" (village leadership) in the same district.

Police said armed assailants, reportedly wearing veils, opened fire at a dera in Chak 95-M.

According to a complaint filed by Tausifur Rehman, he was present with his father Mujeebur Rehman, Bashir Ahmed and Muhammad Rafiq when multiple attackers arrived on motorcycles and opened indiscriminate fire.

As a result, Mujeebur Rehman, Bashir Ahmed and Muhammad Rafiq were killed on the spot.

One of the attackers, identified as Dilshad Ahmed, was also critically injured during the firing and later died at a hospital.
