Jamie Lee Curtis is officially stepping into one of television’s most iconic roles, as her upcoming Murder, She Wrote movie has locked in a theatrical release date.

According to Variety, the film is set to hit theaters on December 22, 2027, positioning it as a major holiday release.

Curtis will take on the role of Jessica Fletcher, the beloved mystery writer and amateur detective originally played by Angela Lansbury in the long-running TV series Murder, She Wrote.

The project marks a big-screen revival of the classic crime drama, which aired for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996 and became one of the most successful detective series in television history.

The movie will be directed by Jason Moore, known for Pitch Perfect, with a screenplay written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo.

Production is backed by Universal Pictures, with producers including Amy Pascal, as well as Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is expected to bring a modern take to the classic whodunit format that made the original series a global hit.

Curtis had previously confirmed the project was in development, saying it was “happening” while expressing excitement about stepping into the iconic role.

The upcoming adaptation marks a significant revival of the beloved franchise, with the holiday 2027 release signaling confidence in the film as a major theatrical event.
