Sarah Michelle Gellar urges fans not to read leaked Buffy reboot script
Sarah Michelle Gellar asks fans to avoid leaked Buffy reboot script after Hulu cancels revival series plans

Sarah Michelle Gellar is speaking out following the cancellation of the planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, urging fans not to engage with leaked materials related to the unaired pilot.
The actress addressed the situation during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Page Six Radio, responding to reports that Hulu had decided not to move forward with the revival project. The reboot, which was set to be directed by Chloé Zhao, had generated significant anticipation among fans of the original series.
Gellar emphasized that she hopes the pilot episode does not leak online, explaining that early versions of television pilots are often incomplete and not reflective of the final creative vision. She noted that pilots serve as a testing ground for storytelling, characters and tone, and are typically revised before reaching audiences.
The actress also revealed that an inaccurate version of the script has already circulated online, encouraging fans to avoid reading it. According to Gellar, such leaks can misrepresent the intended direction of the project and lead to premature criticism.
The Buffy reboot had been in development with new characters and a fresh narrative approach, but ultimately did not receive a series order. Reports indicate that while revisions were made to improve the script, the studio decided not to proceed with a full season.
Gellar has been vocal about her disappointment with how the situation was handled, stressing that the franchise deserves respect given its cultural impact. She also encouraged fans to continue supporting the original series and her latest film projects.
Despite the setback, Gellar and the creative team have expressed appreciation for fan support and remain open to future opportunities.
