Judy Pace, known for ‘Brian’s Song’ and trailblazing roles in 1970s television and film, has died at age 83

Judy Pace, the actress known for her role in the 1971 television film Brian's Song, has died at the age of 83.
Her daughters, Shawn Pace and Julia Pace Mitchell, confirmed that the actress passed away peacefully in her sleep while on a trip to Marina del Rey, surrounded by family.
Pace built a notable career in film and television during the 1960s and 1970s and became recognized as a pioneering figure in Hollywood. She appeared in numerous productions during the era of Blaxploitation cinema and earned an NAACP Image Award for Best Actress for her role as Pat Walters in the television series The Young Lawyers.
Before beginning her acting career, Pace also made history in the fashion industry. In 1961, she became the youngest model to join the Ebony Fashion Fair, a traveling fashion show that highlighted Black designers and models during a time when opportunities in the industry were limited.
Throughout her career, Pace appeared in a wide range of television programs. Her credits included guest roles on series such as I Spy, Batman, Bewitched, Days of Our Lives, The Mod Squad, and Tarzan.
Pace’s contributions helped open doors for Black performers in television and film during a period when representation in the entertainment industry remained limited.
According to her family, those wishing to honor her legacy are encouraged to make donations to the NAACP in lieu of sending flowers.
Pace is remembered for her decades-long career and her role in paving the way for greater representation in Hollywood.
