Nicole Kidman revealed she told Alexander Skarsgård to stop eating falafel before their ‘Big Little Lies’ scenes

Nicole Kidman recently revealed a behind-the-scenes moment from filming Big Little Lies, sharing that she once asked co-star Alexander Skarsgård to avoid eating falafel before filming their kissing scenes.
The Oscar-winning actor discussed the experience during an appearance on the podcast Las Culturistas, where she spoke about her strong dislike of bad breath during on-screen romantic scenes. Kidman explained that maintaining fresh breath was important for scenes requiring close interaction between actors.
According to Kidman, the moment occurred during the production of the HBO drama series, where she and Skarsgård portrayed the married couple Celeste and Perry Wright. The pair shared several intense scenes throughout the first season, including moments requiring physical closeness.
Kidman recalled that when Skarsgård once ate a falafel sandwich before filming, she asked him to avoid doing so before romantic scenes. She said she reminded him that the characters were meant to appear emotionally and physically connected, making details like breath noticeable during filming.
Big Little Lies, produced by HBO, premiered in 2017 and became a major critical success. Both Kidman and Skarsgård earned Primetime Emmy Awards for their performances in the first season. Kidman later returned for the show’s second season, while Skarsgård appeared in guest roles.
The series also stars Reese Witherspoon and was created by television writer David E. Kelley. Reports previously indicated that a third season is currently in development, with Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-creator Francesca Sloane attached to write and executive produce the new installment.
Kidman’s comments from the podcast have since circulated widely on social media, drawing attention to the humorous behind-the-scenes story from the award-winning series.
